Full detailed Itinerary

Around 8:00 AM, your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel or riad in Fes to begin this 3-day journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane — often called the "Switzerland of Morocco" — known for its striking alpine scenery and forests. From there, we continue to Azrou, home to the cedar forest where wild Barbary macaques roam; you'll have time to stop and take photos along the way. The route continues to Midelt, where you can stop for lunch at a local restaurant (optional).

From Midelt, we head toward the desert via the Tizi n'Talghamt pass to Errachidia, taking in views of the Ziz Gorges, with time to pause and photograph the dramatic Ziz Valley. The journey continues through the Tafilalt Oasis, passing Aoufous and Erfoud — known for its fossil museums and date palms, with an optional stop at a local fossil workshop — before arriving in Merzouga. Here you can enjoy free time for an activity like ATV quad biking, or simply take in sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Overnight at a riad near the dunes.

After breakfast, the day is dedicated to exploring the desert surroundings around Merzouga. We begin with a visit to a nomad community, where families still live simply in tents, herding goats, camels, and sheep — a chance to spend time with them and learn about their way of life. From there, we continue toward Khamlia, a small village about 5km from Merzouga known for its Gnawa community, who have preserved their distinct music and traditions — you'll have the chance to hear a live performance. Along the way, there's also a 4x4 vehicle museum and desert oasis to explore. Lunch is at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, we visit Rissani — Morocco's first imperial city, about 30 minutes from Merzouga — home to the region's largest souk, where locals from across the area come to trade. As the day winds down, we set off by camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes to catch a memorable sunset, with the option to try sandboarding. The night is spent in a private nomadic-style tent in a Sahara desert camp, with dinner, music, and a sky full of stars overhead.

On the final morning, rise early to watch the sunrise over the dunes before riding back by camel for breakfast. From there, the journey continues through Rissani, Erfoud, and Errachidia, stopping in Midelt for lunch, before heading on through Ifrane and back to Fes, where your 3-day desert adventure comes to an end.
