Full detailed Itinerary

You'll be welcomed at Tangier's port or airport by a member of our WanderlustInMorocco team and set off into the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen — a town with a fascinating past, originally founded as a secret stronghold from which to resist Portuguese settlers along Morocco's northern coast. So closely guarded was Chefchaouen that Europeans were forbidden entry until Spanish troops arrived in 1920, and the town still sits today within a protected natural biosphere reserve. Perched on a mountainside and painted in shades of white and blue, Chefchaouen is known for its warm, gentle and welcoming residents, its beautifully layered streetscapes cascading down the hillside, lovely local handicrafts, and a rare sense of calm that's increasingly hard to find elsewhere. Spend the rest of the day exploring freely, with an overnight stay at a hotel in town.

After breakfast, enjoy some final free time to wander Chefchaouen's small blue medina, tucked into the surrounding Rif Mountains. Slip through any of its five gates and let your senses guide you through the winding lanes lined with blue-and-white houses, each corner offering something new to see, smell or hear. From here, we set off toward Fes, skirting the Mamora forest and making a detour roughly 27 km from Meknes to visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis, with time to wander among the impressive archaeological remains (a quick stop in Meknes's main square is also on the way). We arrive in Fes by evening for an overnight stay in a riad within the medina.

Today is devoted entirely to Fes, Morocco's cultural and artisanal heart. Known as Fes el Bali, this UNESCO World Heritage old city was founded in the 9th century and is home to the world's oldest university. It flourished as the kingdom's political and cultural capital under the Merinid dynasty in the 13th and 14th centuries, and although the capital later moved to Rabat in 1912, Fes has remained Morocco's foremost center for traditional craftsmanship. Its centuries-old workshops still thrive today, practicing metalwork, leatherwork, ceramics, silk weaving and sculpture within the original city walls that shelter nearly 9,000 narrow lanes. With a local guide, you'll explore the Jewish Mellah quarter, the historic tanneries, the silk, wool and cotton dyers' souks, the Zellij tile cooperative, Al Quaraouiyine University, the Royal Palace of Fes, and a traditional weavers' cooperative, capped off with a panoramic view over Fes el Bali. Enjoy free time to continue exploring at your own pace before your second night in the medina.

After breakfast, we depart for Asilah, stopping en route in Rabat, Morocco's capital, to visit the Royal Palace, the Mohammed V Mausoleum, the Hassan Tower, and the Kasbah of the Oudayas, among other highlights. In the afternoon, we continue on to the coastal town of Asilah, where you can unwind on the beach, take a swim, and wander through its charming whitewashed medina. Overnight at a hotel in Asilah.

After breakfast, we transfer to Tangier for a short city tour before continuing on to the airport or port in line with your departure time.
